Years of teaching. A commitment to freedom and connection.
We are Felipe Ramírez and Tiago Adegas: international dance artists, educators and the founders of the RoleRotation movement in social dances.
We brought dancers exploring both roles together under a shared name and developed a teaching approach that connects technique with equality, representation and freedom of expression. Dancing both roles already had many histories around the world; our work makes that choice more visible and accessible.
Tiago combines a background in psychology, behaviour analysis and business marketing with extensive experience in dance education, choreography and international performance. Emotion, energy and technique shape his teaching across bachata, salsa and kizomba.
Felipe brings language studies, teaching pedagogy and international communication research to his work as a dance educator. His training in music, movement and sports supports an approach grounded in communication, body awareness and inclusive learning.
In September 2019, we met in Madrid and discovered a natural connection through rotating roles. An early shared class and demonstration at Edinburgh’s Bachaadiction showed how strongly audiences connected with seeing that freedom on the dance floor.
During the 2020 lockdown, a message from a young dancer who felt represented by our work helped turn the partnership into a shared commitment to dance and activism. Felipe proposed the name RoleRotation, making the idea easier to communicate across languages.
Tiago’s firsthand account follows the earlier teaching experiments, personal experiences and turning points behind the movement.
